Purpose
This app creates custom PDF targets to help you determine and verify your rifle’s hold-over (or hold-under) at different distances. It generates a large retinal target (scope reticle overlay) scaled exactly to appear life-size through your scope at the chosen distance + 4 small HFT kill-zone sized targets for testing.
How to Use
-
Set Magnification — Move the slider to match your scope’s magnification (the one you use for HFT shooting, usually fixed e.g. 10x). This ensures the retinal target matches what you see through the scope.
-
Choose Units — Switch between Meters or Yards depending on your preference or range setup.
-
Select Distances — The table lists distances from 7 to 42 (in your chosen units). Tap to toggle on/off the distances you want to test. Tip: Start with your suspected zero distance + a few others in 5-unit steps.
-
Create PDF — Tap Create PDF. The app generates a multi-page PDF:
- One page per selected distance
- Large central retinal target — scaled to perfectly fill/match your scope’s reticle view at that exact distance
- 4 small HFT-sized targets (kill zones) for practical shooting tests
- A 150 mm calibration scale printed at the bottom of each page
Print & Use the Target
- Preview the PDF to check it looks correct.
- Share → Print (critical: use a printer setting of “Actual size” / 100% scale, no “Fit to page”, “Shrink”, or “Scale to fit”).
- Verify print size before shooting: Measure the 150 mm scale at the bottom with a ruler — it must measure exactly 150 mm. If not, adjust printer scaling and reprint.
- Print on sturdy paper and mount flat at the chosen distance.
Zeroing & Hold-Over Testing Steps
- Set up at exactly the target distance (measure carefully).
- Look through your scope at the large retinal target — it should align perfectly with your reticle (dots/mil/moa lines match the printed pattern).
- Shoot a tight group (3–5 shots) aiming dead center.
- Observe where the group lands relative to center — this shows your true hold-over / hold-under (or zero error) at that distance.
- Use the 4 small HFT targets to practice holding over/under with your reticle at the same distance (test repeatability).
Tips
- Use your normal HFT shooting position and scope settings (magnification, parallax fixed).
- The 150 mm scale ensures correct print size — always check this first!
- Test multiple distances to map your rifle’s trajectory.
- Record your findings (e.g. “at 35 m: +1.2 mil hold-over”) for match day reference.
- The retinal target is for scope/view alignment only — do not shoot at it for zeroing; use the small targets.
Happy zeroing — tight groups and clean kills!
